Author's guidelines

PEER REVIEW GUIDELINES

The review process in Przegląd Europejski - European Studies Quarterly is compliant with the instructions issued by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

    By submitting the manuscript, the Author agrees with the following procedure of assessment:    

  1. The Editorial Board carries out a preliminary assessment of the form and content of the manuscript. ALL SUBMITTED TEXTS SHOULD BE FINAL VERSIONS, NOT DRAFTS!

  2. If the preliminary assessment is positive, the Editorial Board transfers the text, without disclosing its Author, for it to be assessed by two external reviewers, who do not have any conflict of interest with the Author, in particular, they cannot be affiliated with the same institution. They are not allowed to use any information on the reviewed manuscript prior to its publication. For more information regarding standards for reviewers, please consult the section "Publication ethics".

  3. Following the reviewers’ conclusions, the Editorial Board decides on the manuscript publication, whilst reserving that the manuscript publication depends on whether the Author makes the modifications suggested by the Editorial Board on the basis of their own opinion and the reviewers’ comments.

  4. The accepted text is edited as regards to its content and language correctness.

  5. A list of our reviewers can be found on the website of Przegląd Europejski - European Studies Quarterly.

 

SCIENTIFIC RELIABILITY GUIDELINES 

The author submitting a manuscript by several authors has to reveal the contribution to the manuscript made by particular authors (including their affiliation address and the level of the contribution, i.e. information on the authors of the concept, assumptions, methods, protocols, etc. used during the preparation of the manuscript). In that case, one author will be asked to identify as the corresponding author.

The Publisher recalls that ghostwriting and guest authorship are treated as scientific misconduct and that all detected cases shall be disclosed, a notification shall be sent to relevant institutions, such as institutions employing the authors, scientific societies, associations of scientific editors, etc.

 

FUNDING DETAILS 

The author is obliged to provide information on any funding sources for the publication and any contribution of research and scholarly institutions, associations, and other entities funding the author’s research. The author is fully responsible for the accuracy of the data provided.

 

PREPARING YOUR PAPER 

All texts intended for publication in Przegląd Europejski-European Studies Quarterly must meet the following criteria and comply with the instructions for the authors detailed below.

    PRELIMINARY CRITERIA    

  • the relevance of the topic to the Aims & Scope of the journal,
  • substantive value,
  • correct text structure (IMRaD structure guide),
  • for the article: clearly formulated hypothesis or research questions, methodological assumptions, and adequate bibliographical references,
  • linguistic correctness,
  • the author must send a declaration regarding ghostwriting and guest authorship, as well as grant Przegląd Europejski - European Studies Quarterly a free of charge, non-exclusive license to publish the submitted text both online and in print.

    FORMAL REQUIREMENTS    

Articles intended for publication in Przegląd Europejski - European Studies Quarterly should be at least  20 000 characters long (including spaces) and should not exceed 40 000 characters (including footnotes and bibliography).

As for essays, reviews, or reports we aks for shorter texts (from 7 000 to 15 000 characters, including bibliography).

Illustrations and other graphical elements should be sent as separate JPEG files. 

    STYLE GUIDELINES, FORMATTING, AND TEMPLATES    

The article should be formatted as follows: download the template

The following information should be provided on the first page of the article:

  • title;
  • author's or subsequent authors name and academic affiliation;
  • e-mail
  • ORCID ID;
  • abstract (maximum 700 characters) abstract preparation guide!
  • keywords (up to 5);
  • title, abstract and keywords in Polish (the editorial team will support non-Polish authors);
  • funding and grant-awarding bodies;

The main text of the article begins on the next page and should be formatted as follows:

  • main text (font: Times New Roman, size: 12, line spacing: 1.5, margins: 2.5 cm; justified; paragraph indentation: 1,25);
  • up to two levels of headings: headings (bold, centered) and subheadings (bold, left-aligned);

Please put at the end of the article:

  • a brief biographical note (not exceeding 70 words) containing information on the author's academic degree/title, as well as research interests

    REFERENCES & BIBLIOGRAPHY    

Przegląd Europejski-European Studies Quarterly uses the Harvard referencing system (name-year method). For more information please consult the detailed guidelines

The bibliography should be formatted like the main text (however, for indentation, please use hanging indent 1,25). All included sources (books, articles, websites, etc.) should be arranged alphabetically (by author’s name or publication title if there is no indication of authorship), with works by the same author mentioned in chronological order.

The bibliography at the end of the article should be formatted as follows: Times New Roman 12, line spacing: 1.5, margins: 2.5 cm, jusitified.

The bibliography must be written in the Latin alphabet - in the case of languages ​​written in other alphabets, please use the appropriate transliteration.

    EDITORIAL GUIDELINES    

  • Language: British English with –ise endings is preferred, e.g. colour, towards, programme, Europeanise, centralised, depoliticising, civilisation. 
  • Dates: day (integer) precedes the month (full name), e.g.  9 May 1950 or numerical form with dots, e.g. 9.05.1950. 
  • Numbers: use points rather than commas as decimal marks, use spaces as thousands separators, use three-letter currency codes before the amount, e.g. 1.7%, 25 511.6, EUR 500 million, PLN 100 000. 
  • Quotations: use double quotation marks, for quotations within quotations use single quotation marks, e.g. “This process amounts to redescribing them, thereby saying of them all, ‘Thus I willed it’.” 
  • Abbreviations: introduce in parentheses before using in the text, e.g. European Union (EU). 
  • Figures, tables, illustrations: give each one a number and a title, e.g. “Table 1: Broadband penetration in the European Union, 2007–2011”; reference the source underneath the figure, e.g. “Source: Nowak 2011: p. 141”.
  • Use italics for foreign phrases, e.g. acquis communautaire

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION    

  • Texts submitted to Przegląd Europejski - European Studies Quarterly are assumed to be original, with full copyrights belonging to the authors sending them. If the text has already been published before submission to the journal, the paper must contain an explicit note of this fact, stating the place and date of previous publication.
  • The Editorial Board informs the authors about the acceptance or rejection of their texts within 6 months from submission.
  • The Editorial Board reserves the right to amend and shorten texts. After the editorial process, the author receives text for correction via email. Editorial changed are assumed to be accepted if there is no explicit objection from the author.
  • All Authors are required to accept the Licence Agreement terms and conditions. The Corresponding Author provides a signed agreement after acceptance.
  • The Editorial Board does not return submitted texts.
  • All papers are checked for plagiarism (using Crossref – a plagiarism detection service iThenticate) before being published.  
 

PUBLICATION CHARGES

Przegląd Europejski - European Studies Quarterly does not charge any submission fee.
