Abstract

The paper presents the scope of sectoral cooperation in the area of labour and employment within the Union for the Mediterranean and answers the question concerning the advantages of cooperation and whether it has a chance of being implemented. The institutionalization of the Union for the Mediterranean is also emphasised, with a discussion on the role of the secretariat in respect of promoting sectoral cooperation. Among others, those functions of the secretariat are presented which concern initiating and implementing projects aimed to improve the social and economic situation.
